What would be that 'extra code' is it as simple as use open generic if
explicitly_ipv6 set to true?

At the moment we're working on OpenBSD, where we can set a IPv6 address
on the OpenBSD site and ping6. The Linux machine, which is on the other
site receives the packets, but when sending the replies, we se on the
OpenBSD site's tcpdump 'AH CHECKSUM failed'.
