I've included an abbreviated version of background info from my previous
post.

I've got an office network and home network I am trying to connect. Leaf
Bering firewall/router boxes on each side with static ip addresses,
cable connections to Internet. 192.168.1.x internal addresses at office.
192.168.2.x internal addresses at home. Firewall/router boxes run bering
1.2, shorewall 1.4.2.

Let me follow up to my own post.

It appears that my changes to the shorewall files worked. I can now ping both tunnel ends. Then, using scripts to create routing suggested by Robert Apodaca (thank you very much, I guess I should have read further into the openvpn docs), I was able to ping a machine on the office network from a machine on the home network.

Then I was able to mount an export from the office server onto my home workstation, and open and save files using applications on the home workstation.

This is just great!

This stuff may be trivial to a lot of you, but I have dreamed for ten or fifteen year to be able to do this. I am very happy. Especially happy to do it with open source software.

Thanks to all who have helped me along the way, and thanks to all of those who volunteer their time and energy to create and support this great open source software that we get to use.
