Bah, this list software can be very confusing when replying. Trying
again...
This --mtu-test option sounds extremely useful, unfortunately I haven't
had a chance to try it out (versioning issues).
Is there any focus on speeding up mtu-test, so that it could theoretically
be used to dynamically discover and use the best MTU in both directions,
outside of a test/diag/install environment?

With the latest beta, you can start up the connection with --mtu-test on
one side and it will actually measure the MTU going in both directions.
You can then set your --mssfix parameter to the result given by
--mtu-test.
The advantage of using this approach is in performance, because you will
be using close to the largest packet size the UDP connection can support
without hitting the drop zone.
