Well, I'm not a Samba expert, but what I have on all of my Samba configurations that I don't see here is "netbios name". I also use WINS, which makes discovering computers much quicker through a bridged connection (and is pretty much required for a routed connection). Can you connect to the Samba server from the LAN (not through the tunnel)?
