[Openvpn-users] Windows DHCP client and DNS

  • Subject: [Openvpn-users] Windows DHCP client and DNS

(Sorry if this is a FAQ that I just didn't find:)

I'm running a Windows client with "pull" and sending IPs and DNSs as DHCP
options from the server side. Everything looks fine at the Windows side--
ipconfig /all correctly shows the assigned DNS servers, BUT:

For some reason Windows doesn't use the DNS server(s) when trying to resolve
names but rather defaults to using the DNS servers of my DSL connection. Any
idea why? I've also noted behaviour when Windows uses the DSL DNS as the
primary DNS and the OpenVPN DNS as the secondary DNS.

BR,
Mikael Lönnroth
