I've just read your question on openVPN mailing list and I was wondering
if you could explain to me what you do to secure the wireless link
to the linux box, I'd like to buy a wireless ADSL router and I was
wondering what could I do to make the security of the wireless link
stronger....I was thinking of using WEP, but I know that's weak and your
setup could be useful to me....
If you buy a wireless router, look for one that can do WPA. If you use
WEP, just change the keys on a regular basis. You might want to take a
look at a Linksys WRT54G or GS.
What I do is this: I run an OpenVPN tunnel between my laptop (Window$
and GNU/Linux) and my all-purpose Linux server. On the server end I use
Shorewall to configure my Netfilter/IPTables firewall. The important
thing is to think of a wireless network as an untrusted network, just
like the Internet.
There are a bunch of little things that you could do to improve
security. I would need more info or to help you. If you wish to write
to me off-list, I will offer some suggestions.
