If it is windows server you need to activate RRAS which is the Remote and Routing access server for windows. You will then be able to use your windows machine as a router. Actually, you CAN route with a Windows workstation. There are a couple of Knowledge Base articles on this at the Microsoft web site, and here's the registry mod for Windows XP (KB article 315236): HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters Set the following registry value: Value Name: IPEnableRouter Value type: REG_DWORD Value Data: 1 A value of 1 enables TCP/IP forwarding for all network connections that are installed For Windows 2000, KB article 230082; for Windows Server 2003, 323339; NT, 99686.
