I have a L2 server/client set up with beta11 and it is working well! Is
it possible to assign IPs by CN? I've noticed this in the example
server.conf:

# EXAMPLE: Suppose you want to give
# Thelonious a fixed VPN IP address of 10.9.0.1.
# First uncomment out these lines:
;client-config-dir ccd
;route 10.9.0.0 255.255.255.252
# Then add this line to ccd/Thelonious:
# ifconfig-push 10.9.0.1 10.9.0.2
# This example will only work
# if you are routing, not bridging, i.e. you are
# using "dev tun" and "server" directives.

Why is this only possible with routing? Is it only because it is not implemented (i.e., I could write a patch?) or is there a technical reason? The server pushes ifconfig info just fine with my L2 clients, why won't it work to differentiate which info to push based on CN?

You can use client-config-dir with tap and bridging just like you do with tun and routing to assign IP's by CN.

I do just that. Have you tried it but failed?
