Yes you can. In XP there is an option to turn off completely those 'invalid signature' warnings. Just go to System Properties/Hardware/Driver Signing and select Ignore. Bad thing is that this turns it off for every driver and then bad unsigned drivers can go unnoticed.






Does it have to be signed by Microsoft, or can it be signed by *any* root CA that workstation possesses?


If that's the case, and you're using OpenVPN with certs, then chances are you have a CA...
