As your message does not regard development of OpenVPN, it belongs on
openvpn-users rather than openvpn-devel; I'm posting this response there.
But where do we use the client's private key ? Why do we need it anyway ?
Please see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_key_cryptography for a
general overview of asymetric crypto.
Generally speaking (ie. not specifically to OpenVPN, but with asymetric
crypto in general), the client's (or any side's) private key can be used
by the to create signatures which can be authenticated with its public
key, or to decrypt content which the server (or any other party) used
its public key to create.
