Incidentally, this doesn't seem logically possible.  We don't know who the
user is until we have successfully authenticated them, i.e. authentication
is the process by which we verify the user's identity.  Prior to
authentication, the user's identity is unknown, so how would it be
possible to deploy different authentication methods for different users,
if the whole purpose of authentication in the first place is to tell us
exactly which user we are talking to?
