I do not grok completely what you want to achieve. Do you want to run an
openvpn TCP connection tunneled through an ssh tunnel? Such a connection
will fail on logout not because of the openvpn server but because of the
underlying ssh tunnel going away. But then, I may be misinterpreting
your set up.

I am running several openvpn installations on SuSE without problems.
There must be something I am missing in your description. Maybe a little
ASCII art mail help.
