ok, this is the deal, i've got this power mac g4(blue and white)
that
will run 10.4, as that what is was running on it before the drive

this machine has ppc 333 with 768MB of ram and a decent video card
(ati
something)
so the only two caveats that i see are:
1. 10.4 only comes on dvd. this machine does not have a dvd rom,
just
cd rom.
2. this mahcine needs a hard drive.
i will donate the mahcine, and i will try to locate my mac media and
make it available for download to someone who has dvd creation
capacity.
shipping will need to be arranged from omaha, ne USA as i'm
broke as a
joke.
so, it sounds like an ide drive was located, courtesy of
michael.hieb@xxxxxxxxxx, all we need is shipping to james and the
actual
dvd.
any takers on the shipping?
I will pay the shipping. Just give me an amount and where to pay it
(prefer PayPal).
My only concern is that we have not heard from James in a few
days. Before
we send him this lovely gift, let's make sure he still wants it.
I'm definitely here (just a bit overworked right now). Having a
Mac would be great, though I must add the caveat that I can't
promise to immediately take on a maintainership role of the Mac
port. What I _will_ do initially is basic testing on stable
release candidates to ensure that they are not broken on the Mac.
What would be useful for me at this point is if someone could write
up a brief howto on installing GNU and development tools (like gcc
and emacs) and then doing a complete build from source of OpenVPN
and all components such as tun/tap device driver, GUI, openssl, and
lzo, and finally the steps to package everything.
That would be a install of the xcode tools.
Another thing is... Does James actually need the mac onsite? Would a
ssh login not
be enough? It's not like he has to exchange the kernel, only install
a kernel extension,
and fiddle with the openvpn software.

i'm certain james is a talented developer, but i'm sure even he makes
mistakes every now and again. what happens when the machine locks
up,once, twice or perhaps (gasp) three times while he's doing his magic?
it's just best while doing devel work that he have the developer have
the machine. besides, consider it a small token of our appreciation
and or "small" contribution to the project.
Yes -- having the machine locally speeds up the debugging/testing
process, especially when kernel components are involved.
