Re: [Openvpn-users] Moving from IPSEC to OpenVPN for VOIP

Paul,

Yes, try UDP mode first. OpenVPN has a small bandwidth overhead, but I find that lzo compression more than makes up for it. If you're using very compressing codecs (gsm-like), then disable LZO.

Lastly, be concerned about VoIP security, it is all over the news...

Regards.

Greetings! Some research indicates that there may be benefits to running my
VOIP channels over OpenVPN instead of IPSEC. I have a few questions and
would be grateful for any responses:

a) Is it correct that I should try to use UDP mode?

b) What kind of bandwidth overhead would I be looking at vs. the big
overhead I am finding with IPSEC/GRE using 8K codecs?

c) If I am not concerned with security are there low/no encryption options
that will improve b)

THANKS!
