Really? I wasn't aware of that. In any case, I wouldn't recommend doing
that because I'd be rather doubtful that all TCP/IP implementations
would handle that properly. You might well have an ugly situation if you
are trying to send a packet to 10.0.8.255. Some embedded devices, such
as print servers, may well misinterpret it as broadcast anyway.

No, it's one of the lesser known rules of subnetting. In fact, I didn't
even know about it until I tried to (mis)configure a Cisco router with
such a subnet and got an error message.

Actually - turns out that I was only half right. You actually CAN use
these subnets, but they used to be discouraged, and on older versions of
IOS you have to enable a special configuration
